Reclaimed Teak Outdoor Furniture Care

Opinions vary on this topic of caring for teak patio furniture. Although you can work at keeping your reclaimed teak wood furniture a golden color (or darker color, if so desired), this requires discipline and work! Impact Imports recommends leaving your reclaimed teak furniture in its natural form and simply cleaning periodically with a quality oil soap and water. Over time, your reclaimed teak wood furniture will season to a silver-gray color. A light, "wet sanding" (fine sand paper along with teak oil or any other oil) every couple years will bring the wood surface to a new, golden appearance. Applying a wax to your reclaimed teak furniture will also prolong its life.

A variety of products are on the market for application to teak patio furniture. We do not recommend using any products that create a hard finish on the furniture, as it would likely crack & peel in time. Oil based sealers would be more adequate, and there are some that contain ultra violate (UV) light protection. If you decide to use a sealer on your furniture, be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions on the container.

While your reclaimed teak wood furniture is able to withstand the most extreme weather conditions, maximum life can be achieved by storing or covering the furniture in the "off season." Periodically tightening any mechanical hardware of your furniture and cleaning are also recommended to achieve the best use and longest life.
